Day 79

Tuesday 23rd of March 2010 at 22:33

I've been out here 80 days tomorrow and I have to say the past few days have been the most bizarre of the crossing so far. I've got 25knt winds blowing from the east/north east and fairly big seas but for some reason my progress has just halved. I can only assume there is a strong current working against the waves. The boat feels very heavy at the moment. When the reality is it's at it's lightest now. I've given up worrying about it as all you can do is just go with it until something changes and it always does.

Today I went through my rations and I have enough to get to 100 days with no major problems. After that it's on to soups and desserts that I've saved. By 100 days I should be pretty close so I think fingers crossed might just be ok on the food side of things.

I had a little go at a fishing today. I used a dead flying fish that I found in the boat as bait. I stuck it onto a hook and trailed it behind the boat. Within 2 mins a large fish possibly a Dorado came and cleverly removed it from the hook without getting hooked it's self. I did think if I keep trying I should be able to catch something. There are always plenty of fish swimming around the boat.

Thanks to everyone for all the nice messages of support. I do need to say a big thanks in particular to Dave Park and all the team at Avnet for making something rather special happen.

Out for now

Captain Ketch,
