Day 59 Half Way!

Wednesday 3rd of March 2010 at 22:15

Day 59 Half Way! Finally I'm half way! At last I hear you cry! Today I crossed the half way point. I have 1485 miles left to Antigua according to my GPS. As I write this I'm pleased to say that figure is coming down as I'm drifting west at the moment. Nice! I'm sure everyone following me has already worked out it's been a pretty tough time so far. The main problem has been the weather or lack of good weather. I've heard reports that this has been the worst year for weather in the history of the Atlantic rowing race. Really I would of liked to of been at this point at least 15 days ago. However in the grand scheme of things it's ok. I'm still going and pretty much everything out here is out of my control anyway. With a bit of luck I can finish off in around 40 - 45 days from now.

It has certainly been quite eventful so far. Fortunately some of the things that went wrong or broke earlier on the crossing haven't been to much of a problem so that's a relief. As today was a big mile stone I treated myself to my last can of tinned fruit. Now the treats are all gone until I get to Antigua where my cheese burger and chips await. I can smell it from here! Umm.

Apologies to anyone that has if this is not the case but I've been informed that not one person has made a donation on my just giving page since I've been out here. Wow! Surely battling through some of the harshest weather in over 10 years to make the half way point has got to be worth at least just a few quid surely? It would be greatly appreciated by myself and the children the NSPCC support. Thanks in advance. www.justgivving.com/jamesketchell

The next mile stone to crack will be the 1000 mile mark. In that case I'd better get cracking!

Thanks to all my sponsors and everyone that has followed and supported me so far.

A very tired captain Ketch!

Hi Beardy Gorgeous! Just checking in to catch up and say we are all still thinking of you - great new pic, VERY Robinson Crusoe!! :) You've asked for updates from the UK, well hot off the press for me, I am leaving Avnet at the end of the month. I am relocating back to London and starting my own business - VERY exciting times. Although I will certainly miss everyone here, life is all about seizing the moment and following your dreams right? :) You inspire me Ketch, in your pursuit of your own dream, and I love reading your updates! Keep them coming... I can't wait to catch up with you in a couple of months to hear all about your AMAZING trip! I will see what I can do to promote your story and drum up some more sponsorship for you. Keep going Sweeetheart - row Robinson row!! Peace & love, Helen x

Well done Captain Ketch youve done a bit of rowing, seen a a whale, a family of dolphins, grown a beard, slept under the stars, dined regally on the ocean wave each night and reached the halfway point all in just a few days. Such energy. Now you have hit this vital point its all downhill as you cruise home. Well done for pushing yourself so far so fast. Keep it and keep in mind that another day passed is another decent meal that bit closer.
We are all thinking of you. Very best
