Day 107

Wednesday 21st of April 2010 at 09:01

Going to keep this one a little shorter, need to get back out on the oars.
All in all everything is going ok on the good ship Speedo. Progress towards Antigua has been acceptable so happy with that. It feels so nice to be able to eat properly again. Rowing 12 hours days constantly feeling hungry is not that pleasant believe you me.

Today I saw a plane flying over head which happens to be the first one of the crossing. Maybe another sign I'm getting closer. I've not even seen one vapor trail in the sky for 107 days. When I usually see planes over head I always wonder where they are going. At least on this occasion I know it's not going to Europe.

I've managed to get good sleep for the last few nights which always helps. My dreams are a little crazy but think that's where I'm so tired.

Not long now hopefully!

Day 105

Monday 19th of April 2010 at 11:33

Finally on the move again which is great. Progress is slow but at least I'm making ground in the right direction. Sometimes the ocean moves along pretty quickly and other times it's fairly static. It's static at the moment so moving just a little slower.

I now have more food on board as I managed to get re-supplied. Basically I completely ran out of food which was a worry for me. I did manage to make 90 days last 105 days which is good going. The re-supply came last night. A big thanks to Simon Chalk for organizing it and to the guys onboard Ocean Planet for delivering it.

Now with plenty of food on board I think you'll all agree it's time to get cracking and bring the good ship Speedo in. I've been out here a long time.

I have started to see more rubbish float by so that is a sign I'm getting closer.

Thanks for all the messages of support.

Out for now,
Captain Ketch

Day 103

Friday 16th of April 2010 at 23:19

Just over 200 miles from Antigua and I've been sitting on the para anchor for 2 days drifting backwards. Frustration to a new level! Even though I have not been progressing I've been trying to have productive days by doing jobs on the boat. For instance today I could not row but I did wash some cloths, clean the cabin out and scrubbed the bottom of the boat. Although it was a little rough to clean the bottom properly. I find doing tasks on the boat helps me stay motivated when not progressing. I guess I just like to feel I've done something instead of nothing.

The forecast suggests some good weather from Sunday for 3 days so if I can cover another 100 miles I'll be very happy.

Rowing the Atlantic has obviously isolated me from any news and general info on what's going on in the world quite a bit. However today I was informed all flights in and out of Europe have been grounded due to a volcano erupting over Iceland that has thrown ash high into the jet streams. Wow that must be causing chaos for a lot of people.

Thanks for all the txt messages of support that I've received recently. Please don't forget to sponsor me if you haven't all ready. It will be greatly appreciated. www.justgivving.com/jamesketchell
